This upcoming Monday, January 25, the SJC is cosponsoring an action at the State of the City address for Albany, NY. Gather at 5:15 PM at City Hall, 24 Eagle Street.
Day after day—week after week—we hear and see accounts of deadly police violence unlawfully waged against members of our communities.
Sandra Bland. Tamir Rice. Freddie Gray. Bettie Jones. Eric Garner…. and countless others.
Last April, right here in Albany, the name Dontay Ivy was tragically added to that list. Like most incidents of abuse at the hands of the police, those responsible for Dontay’s death have not been held accountable. The mayor, District Attorney, and police chief have refused to acknowledge the culpability of the officers who killed Dontay, and the long-standing patterns of racial profiling in our city.
January 25th, 2016, at the annual State of the City address, the community will converge on City Hall to have our voices heard.
Join us as we demand justice for the death of Dontay Ivy and accountability for the repeated abuses imposed on our communities by local law enforcement and the racist criminal justice system. RSVP to the Facebook event here.
